Bloodborne Pathogens
The goal of this introductory course is to help employers provide a safe and healthful work environment for their employees and minimize the possibility of employee exposure to bloodborne pathogens. |
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The goal of this introductory course is to protect employees from work-related illness and injury. The student learns how to determine what personal protective equipment is required to perform a particular job, to inspect this equipment for defects before donning it, and how to determine when this equipment needs to be replaced. |
Latex Allergy
From surgical gloves to syringes, latex is everywhere in the medical workplace. This can be a significant issue for the 6 to 17% of healthcare workers who report having a latex allergy. This lesson teaches students how to recognize who is at risk for latex allergy, the symptoms of latex allergy, how to prevent, treat, and work around existing latex allergies, and how to respond to incidents of anaphylactic shock. |
TB Protection
It is estimated that every year, tuberculosis infects eight million new people and takes two million lives worldwide. This lesson teaches students how to keep this deadly disease from spreading by effective symptom identification, controlling potential for exposure, and by explaining the importance of administering TB tests to exposed individuals and treating individuals who have already been infected. |
Security and Workplace Violence
It has been reported that healthcare workers are four times more likely to experience workplace violence than individuals in other professions. In this lesson, students learn how to prevent and diffuse acts of workplace violence through recognizing potential for violent behavior, preventing security violations, and properly responding to acts of violence. |
Fire Safety
Healthcare facilities have their own unique challenges when it comes to both preventing and responding to fires. In this lesson, students learn practices to reduce the risk of fires in the healthcare workplace. They are also taught how to respond to fires, (including the proper use of fire extinguishers,) how to alert others about a fire, and how to protect and evacuate patients. |
